Dealing with NDIS support can be very complex, confusing and hence off-putting and as such we often get asked a myriad of questions. Whilst we can’t answer every question as nearly all NDIS services are quite personalised, we can however hopefully answer many commonly asked questions here. Once you have an approved NDIS plan it’s important to understand the different budgets within it and who can help you with what parts. Ideally, you would choose an NDIS care provider that can fulfil all of the recommendations within your NDIS plan to make things easy.
You will be free to choose which parts of your plan you allocate your budget to in order to achieve your goals.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government-operated scheme aimed at supporting an estimated 500,000 Australians within the next 5 years. There are approximately 4.3 million Australians with a disability of some kind. The scheme is run by the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) which is a government agency
Who is eligible for NDIS support? There is a qualification process where the following minimum criteria must be met:
• Having a permanent disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities
• Are aged less than 65 when you first access the scheme
• Are an Australian citizen, lives in Australia and holds a permanent visa or holds a Protected Special Category Visa. Please see this helpful eligibility checklist here to see if you qualify
If you meet the above criteria then you can request to become a participant by filling in the Access Request Form. If you already receive disability support services, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will contact you when it becomes available in your area
Each participant is treated individually so support is based on the participant’s needs and your own circumstances, but for our clients, it can cover things like:
• Daily personal activities
• Transport to participate in local community, social, economic and daily life activities
• Workplace support to maintain or gain employment
• Therapeutic support, including behavioural support
• Help with regular household tasks
• Assessment of aids and equipment also including set up and training
Once eligibility is confirmed, each participant will receive an individually created NDIS support plan that is based on the participant's individual needs and your own unique circumstances. This plan not only covers what support is recommended now but has goals and aims that can be attained in the future
You will be visited by a planner from the NDIS. You will likely attend more meetings (in person or over the phone) so the NDIS can gather all the information they need to construct an individual plan. During your meetings, they will discuss activities, tasks and goals that you feel are important. They will review the supports and services you already receive and use all this information to create your individual plan.
